FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer in-person or online therapy?

I maintain a hybrid psychotherapy practice, offering in-person somatic and couples therapy in Kentfield, Marin County, and virtual therapy sessions for individuals and couples throughout California via telehealth.

What types of therapy do you offer?

I offer:

  • Couples therapy

  • Individual somatic therapy

  • Attachment-based and relational therapy

  • Nervous system-oriented psychotherapy

My work integrates somatic therapy, attachment-focused approaches, and experiential relational work.

What is somatic therapy?

Somatic therapy is a body-based approach to psychotherapy that works with the connection between emotions, relationships, the nervous system, and the body’s stress responses.

Rather than focusing only on thoughts or insight, somatic therapy also helps people understand and shift patterns of anxiety, shutdown, overwhelm, reactivity, and disconnection that occur automatically under stress.

How is somatic therapy different from traditional talk therapy?

Somatic therapy works not only with thoughts and emotions, but also with the body’s physiological responses and nervous system patterns.

Many people already understand themselves intellectually but still feel stuck in the same emotional reactions or relationship dynamics. Somatic therapy helps create change at the level where those patterns actually happen.

What issues do you work with?

I work with:

  • recurring relationship conflict

  • emotional disconnection

  • anxiety and overwhelm

  • attachment and relational patterns

  • shutdown or emotional flooding

  • perfectionism and self-criticism

  • identity and life transitions

  • relational or emotional trauma

  • neurodivergence discovered or explored in adulthood

What is your approach to couples therapy?

My couples work integrates attachment-based therapy, somatic therapy, and nervous system awareness.

Rather than focusing only on communication strategies, we work to understand the deeper emotional and physiological patterns shaping the relationship, including pursue/withdraw cycles, shutdown, escalation, and disconnection.

What is PACT and EFCT?

PACT (Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy) and EFCT (Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy) are attachment-based approaches to couples therapy that help partners better understand their emotional patterns, nervous system responses, and relational dynamics.

These approaches support greater emotional security, responsiveness, repair, and connection within relationships.

What if my partner is hesitant about therapy?

That’s very common. Many couples begin therapy with one partner feeling uncertain or cautious about the process. However, couples therapy can only work if both partners are committed to working together. Understanding the relational cycle more clearly often helps reduce blame and creates greater openness over time.

Can therapy help if we’re unsure whether to stay together?

Yes. Therapy can help couples better understand their patterns, clarify what is happening in the relationship, and make more grounded decisions about whether repair feels possible.

Do I need to have trauma for somatic therapy to help?

No. Somatic therapy can be helpful for anxiety, emotional overwhelm, relationship difficulties, stress responses, and recurring emotional or relational patterns even without a focus on trauma processing.

Is somatic therapy the same as mindfulness or meditation?

No; while awareness is important, and meditation can be useful, somatic therapy is more specifically focused on nervous system regulation, emotional processing, and the body’s automatic responses to stress and relationships.

What if I feel disconnected from my body or emotions?

That’s very common. Part of somatic therapy involves gradually developing a safer and more manageable connection to internal experience, emotional awareness, and bodily sensations.

How long does therapy take?

The length of therapy depends on your goals, the level of distress, and the depth of change you’re seeking.

Some people come for short-term support around a specific issue, while others engage in longer-term work focused on deeper relational and emotional patterns.

What are your fees?

Current Rates

  • Individual Therapy (50 min): $225

  • Couples Therapy (50 min): $300

  • Extended Couples Sessions* (75 min): $375

*Because this work is relational and experiential in nature, many couples choose extended sessions to allow more space for depth, slowing down patterns, and meaningful repair.

Do you take insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider and do not bill insurance directly.

Upon request, I can provide a superbill that clients may submit to their insurance company for possible reimbursement depending on their out-of-network benefits. To learn more about this process, check out the Insurance section under Practice Information.

What is your cancellation policy?

Therapy is only helpful if both of us are showing up consistently and committing to the process. I have a 1-week cancellation and rescheduling policy so I can effectively manage the scheduling needs of my clients. I do my best to accommodate rescheduling with less notice, but sessions cancelled with less notice will be charged the full session fee.

I also have a yearly limited cancellation policy in which clients can cancel up to 6 sessions without charge in cases of illness, emergency, or advance notice.
