Dyadic Family Therapy
Dyadic Family Therapy
Parent-child relationships can be some of the most tender and meaningful relationships of our lives, as well as some of the most painful. They represent both the untended wounds of those that came before us, as well as the potential for healthier and more secure-functioning patterns of relating for future generations.
I specialize in supporting parent-child relationships with developing more secure-functioning behaviors, such as healthy communication, self-expression, and the capacity to process old wounds, take accountability, and repair together. I am here to support the two of you with navigating your relationship in a meaningful and satisfying way.
Family therapy can be an evocative process that allows the two of you to share with one another layers of yourselves and identities that you might not otherwise know about. At the same time, it can also strengthen the bond that you are already familiar with.
For adult parent-adult child dyads in particular, I hold myself as more of a coach and will encourage the two of you in sessions to practice self-regulation, non-violent communication, and emotional vulnerability. My role is to support you with forming a satisfying and/or sustainable adult-adult relationship with one another. For adult family dyads, I spend the first 1-3 sessions conducting an in-depth attachment interview with each individual, in the presence of the other. This can be a meaningful process in which parent and child can gain deeper insight into one another, before we start directly addressing what you two are coming into family therapy for.
For parent-adolescent child dyads, I provide more one-on-one support in sessions due to the developmental differences between parent and child. If you are the parent of a teenager who would benefit from working with me, please reach out to me here to schedule a consultation with me. Please specify if you would like me to work with both you and your teenager in dyadic family therapy, or if you would like me to work directly with your teen in adolescent therapy.
I offer 50-minute and 75-minute sessions on a weekly basis.
My areas of specialization with dyadic family therapy include:
