Somatic psychotherapy for relationships & relational wellness
What is somatic, or body-informed psychotherapy?
Somatic psychotherapy is a relational therapeutic modality that is informed by the body's innate intelligence and capacity to grow, change, and evolve. Engaging in somatic psychotherapy in individual therapy and adolescent therapy means doing the hard work of getting to know yourself and the patterns or behaviors that you no longer find satisfying.
In the case of couples therapy, this work extends into the patterns playing out between you and your partner, and collaborating together to form a relational container (otherwise known as the “Couple Bubble”) that is more sustainable and satisfying for both of you. A similar approach is taken with dyadic family therapy, but I hold this process differently due to the developmental differences between parent and child (adolescent).
By attending to the feelings, sensations, and muscular holding patterns that are evoked in the therapeutic process, one can grow from feeling anxious, powerless, or helpless, to feeling like an empowered, active participant in one’s life. My job is to support, nurture, and guide this process.
I offer somatic psychotherapy sessions to adults, adolescents, couples, and dyadic family relationships
INDIVIDUAL THERAPY FOR ADULTS & ADOLESCENTS
I will work with you on a one-on-one basis to support you with growing a closer relationship to yourself, as well as grow any inter-relational skills you want to develop, using a somatic-emotional exercise and the relational depth of the therapeutic container. Growing the capacity to deeply know and influence yourself, and to deepen your relationships, is helpful when supported by a somatic therapist in individual therapy.
COUPLES & RELATIONSHIP THERAPY
As I work with you and your loved one, I hold myself as more of a coach and am here to support the two of you with directly managing your relationship. Though I am here to help, the goal is not to depend on me, but to grow the ability to lean on one another. Growing the means to deepen your capacity for closeness, contact, and communication with your partner, parent, or loved one, is helpful when guided by a somatic therapist in couples, family, or relationship counseling.
About Courtenay
My cross-cultural upbringing and natural inclination to want to get to know people have prepared me well for a career in psychotherapy. I work particularly well with individuals who experiences themselves as outside of the norm, or as an outsider within a social group, or are navigating an experience that makes them feel like they are different from everyone else. In our work, it’s important for you to know that I genuinely want to understand you, I encourage you to be fully present, and I am capable of supporting your experience.
I am currently accepting new clients!
